NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers invest in HydroWorx 2000

Middletown, PAIn professional sports, injuries are frequent and very costly. That is why the NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are currently 5-1 and in first place in the NFC South, purchased a HydroWorx 2000 Series pool – one of the most advanced sports medicine rehabilitation and training tools on the market today.

The HydroWorx 2000 pool, made by HydroWorx of Middletown, Pa., is fast becoming a staple of professional and elite amateur training rooms across the country. The reason is simple: injured athletes heal faster and better when using it.

With it, injuries that once ended seasons and even careers can now, in many cases, be successfully treated.

Accessibility is a key feature of the HydroWorx 2000. The adjustable pool floor allows injured athletes to safely enter the water with no stairs or ladders. The athlete simply walks or is wheeled onto the floor and lowered to any water height up to 6 ft. The entire floor doubles as an 8’ x 12’ variable speed treadmill that smoothly increases from 0 to 8.5 mph in safe .2 mph increments. The treadmill surface has a cushioned lowimpact design with excellent traction. Underwater cameras allow trainers to observe movements and diagnose gait irregularities.

“In the pool, these athletes are a fraction of their real weight and there is much less stress on the injured joint,” said HydroWorx executive Michael McHugh. “The running motion, however, is exactly as it would be on dry land, “he added.

The result is a speedier, more complete recovery from injury or surgery.

Many other customers such as the University of South Florida and Philadelphia Phillies Training Facility in Clearwater use the pools to treat their athletes as well. The newly designed Andrew’s Institute in Pensacola will use the pools to help those suffering from brain and spinal cord injuries, joint replacements, osteoporosis and other conditions. Additionally, the U.S. Navy Seals in Norfolk Virginia purchased two HydroWorx pools to assist in training their elite combatants.

The company also sells a line of in-home underwater treadmill and therapy pools gaining popularity with aging, fitness conscious baby boomers.
