Rupp’s Marathon Trials Approach, Surprise Many
Galen Rupp has proven he’s a force with which to be reckoned. His February 2011 Aviva Grand Prix, Birmingham, time of 13:11:44 in the 5,000m as well as his September 2011 U.S. record-breaking 10,000m of 26:48:00 in Brussels have even been noted in The 10 Best Moments for U.S. Distance Running in 2011.
It’s no wonder Rupp is getting accolades; under the tutelage of running legend Alberto Salazar, the 25-year-old Rupp has consistently improved despite a few setbacks. Now, his entry into the January 14, 2012, Olympic Marathon Trials in Houston, Texas, have made many athletes nervous… and more than a little surprised.
Rupp has traditionally competed in the 5,000m and 10,000m. Though he raced a super-fast half-marathon last March, he hasn’t competed in a marathon-length race.
It’s safe to say that all eyes will be on Rupp as he sets out to snag one of the three coveted hot spots of the U.S. Marathon team. Will his underwater treadmill training help him get that extra edge? We think so!
In any case, HydroWorx – and the world – will be watching him closely!
