More Universities Sign On with HydroWorx
Eight large schools purchase HydroWorx underwater treadmills for their athletes

The HydroWorx family is growing.
Eight universities recently decided to add HydroWorx underwater treadmill and therapy pools to their athletic facilities so that their student athletes could enjoy the same advantages that many elite professional and amateur athletes enjoy.

Notre Dame, Stanford, Nova Southeastern and James Madison Universities, along with the universities of Kansas, New Mexico, Virginia and Idaho all recently signed with HydroWorx of Middletown, Pa. a medical and rehabilitation industry leader. Over 150 of its pools are now fixtures in professional and collegiate training rooms.

Only a few years ago, an average, 250-pound football player recovering from knee surgery could expect to spend many months in rehabilitation before ever running or walking on the injured joint.  Regaining the joint’s natural range of motion was a struggle – the weight was simply too much to bear.

That same player on an underwater treadmill with water up to his chest would weigh 50 pounds instead of 250. With far less stress on the injured joint, the recovering athlete can strengthen the joint while moving it naturally.

The result is a speedier, more complete recovery, trainers say. Injury recovery time is a bottom line issue for many. That’s why groups from the Philadelphia Eagles football team to the U.S. Navy Seals fighting team own HydroWorx pools.

Elite U.S. distance runners training as part of the Nike sponsored Oregon Project are incorporating HydroWorx treadmill workouts into their routines. “I feel these pools and the underwater treadmill will help revitalize long distance running in the U.S.,” said Oregon Project coach and running legend Alberto Salazar. “We can increase the mileage our guys run without increasing the wear and tear on their joints,” Salazar said.

HydroWorx customers also include many hospitals and rehabilitation centers where patients are recovering from joint replacement surgery, strokes and spinal cord injuries. HydroWorx residential sales are on the rise as recreational runners seek ways to improve performance without overstressing their aging bodies.
