Microsoft Technology Makeover Awarded to HydroWorx

Middletown, PA-HydroWorx, a leading manufacturer of aquatic therapy pools and based in Middletown, PA, is the first place winner of the Microsoft Small Business Technology Makeover Award.

The contest was open to any U.S. business with 10-to-50 employees and at least five PCs and consisted of two parts. First, a Microsoft Certified IT consultant must nominate each company to be eligible. Second, entrants filled out an online questionnaire and submitted a 500-word essay explaining how their company would benefit from a tech makeover. Judges looked for the following criteria:

  • -The business issues the entrant faced were common among small businesses
  • -The entrant had typical technology concerns – such as security, redundancy and cost
  • -The winners represented industry segments most typically found in the small business community

As a result, HydroWorx, known for technology advances in aquatic therapy, was one of three winners to receive an HP Smart Buy Server and a copy of Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 with an estimated value of $1368.

Alan Feldman, founder and owner of Virtual October based in nearby York, PA, not only nominated HydroWorx but took it upon himself to fill out the questionnaire and submit the 500-word essay as well. Virtual October specializes in helping small businesses grow, prosper and become more efficient. "I help businesses make good decisions about their computer systems. They can use technology to their advantage and to their competition’s disadvantage," said Feldman.

HydroWorx has done just that. In the past year, HydroWorx has achieved record breaking sales growth, moved to a new facility double the size of the original office space, graced the cover of Sports Illustrated and achieved a product placement on the set of NBC’s ’The Biggest Loser’. On October 25th, NBC’s reality program is scheduled to include footage of an injured contestant continuing his exercising routine in one of the latest models manufactured by HydroWorx.

HydroWorx employees will benefit immediately through use of Small Business Server 2003. Forms, files, and information once located only at the corporate office will now be available for immediate download by sales staff while they are traveling – a direct means of increasing productivity.
