Leg Up Farm Officially Opens Wellness Center
Leg Up Farm celebrated the grand opening of Phase III of their wonderful facility with an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, October 19. This addition was a new wellness center which includes pediatric massage, a movement room, physical therapy gym and hydrotherapy room with a HydroWorx 2000 Series pool.
The rest of the facility includes horse therapy, with a huge stable and riding area for therapy, outdoor therapy areas such as a koi pond full of fish that children can walk into to feed the fish and a massive playground that is ideal for children with any handicap. Inside, there are storefronts, tree houses and Martin’s potato chip trucks, all created to provide therapy without making it feel like work.
The open house was packed with people from all over the mid-state coming to see what new and exciting things will be available in the wellness center at Leg Up Farm and to enjoy fellowship and fun throughout the entire facility. The facility was 13 years in the making by Louis Castrata Jr., his wife Laurie and many others, and they finally opened the doors in 2010. It was created out of the desire to help with availability and affordability of therapy services for children with special needs.
Saturday’s open house included demonstrations of the aquatic therapy pool. With the fully moveable floor with zero-depth entry, kids can walk or be wheeled directly onto the floor and can be lowered to any depth that is appropriate for sitting or standing to reduce their body weight. Child after child came through the door excited to see what the pool could do and envision what fun they might have if their therapy included some time in the pool. Most of the comments from parents were that this facility has been so helpful for them, and now this aquatic therapy might be a reason for their children to enjoy coming to therapy. Many of their children love water and will hopefully not even notice that they are working hard while they are splashing around.
It was a fun day where kids got to pet and talk to the horses, make their own horses, play on the playground, dip their toes in the water and mingle with other kids that may be similar to or different than them.
It’s so exciting to see what Leg Up Farm has become and how it will continue to grow. The beautiful facility in such a calming setting has helped so many people already and will certainly affect so many more. We, at HydroWorx, are so blessed to be a part of this amazing facility.
