On August 1, 2007, Minnesota’s fifth busiest bridge, the I-35W Mississippi River Bridge, collapsed without warning. Among the 145 injured was Paula C.
A mom in her 40s, Paula suffered from a brain and spinal cord injury. She also developed heterotopic ossification, a condition in which bone tissue forms abnormally. As a result, her road to recovery looked arduous, but she remained persistent, positive and open.
As part of her rehabilitation, Paula began aquatic therapy at the HydroWorx pool at ACCUA in Savage, Mn. Over time, her gait became more normal and she was able to move with greater ease. As she notes of her experiences rehabbing under Jeff, one of ACCUA’s experts, “I think that working here is adding flexibility to my movement…”
