The Premier League Club puts Large Investment into New Training Facility

Middletown, PA-Chelsea FC hopes that their new training complex will lead them to their third Premier League Championship in four years.  This state of the art facility in Cobham, Surrey includes a HydroWorx 2000 aquatic therapy pool complete with an underwater treadmill and resistance jets to be used for training and rehabilitating some of the Premier League’s top athletes.

The club’s medical team first viewed a HydroWorx 2000 pool while visiting Rutgers University in New York City in July 2005.  The HydroWorx 2000 is a barrier free modular pool whose floor, which doubles as an underwater treadmill, can be elevated to meet the athlete at floor level then be submersed to depths of up to six feet.  The cushioned, low-impact treadmill operates at speeds of .2 mph increments to a top speed of 8.5 mph.  Other amenities such as directional water jets, hydromassage hoses, and underwater video feedback are hallmark features of HydroWorx technology.   HydroWorx pools are utilized around the world for rehabilitating, training and conditioning top athletes.

Chelsea FC chief executive Peter Kenyon says “Developing home grown players is a vitally important goal for Chelsea .  To achieve this [club owner Roman Abramovich] has invested in the land, the infrastructure and the latest training, medical and other technology to give us the best chance of meeting those goals.”

The ’06-‘07  FA Cup Champions have been a top contender in football since their inception in 1905.  The club won the Premier League championship in ‘04-‘05 and ‘05-‘06.
