Presented By: Kurt Stork, Director of Rehabilitation Services for Premier Surgical Institute & Ortho Four States Physical Therapy and Aquatic Rehabilitation
This webinar will promote a better understanding of the benefits of aquatic therapy and how the geriatric community can continue to exercise and get stronger despite physical barriers that aging adults commonly face. We will discuss resistance training and muscle hypertrophy in the pool, the health and wellness benefits of aquatics and ways to tailor aquatic therapy to meet all levels of function. The presentation will compare aquatic versus land-based strengthening and demonstrate how to promote healthy and active lifestyles through the therapeutic properties and benefits of the aquatic setting.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the benefits of aquatic-based strengthening versus land-based strengthening.
- Demonstrate an understanding of aquatic therapy principles, including buoyancy, hydrostatic pressure and viscosity.
- Understand precautions for exercising in an aquatic setting and recognize how people with different conditions can use aquatics to improve strength, balance and endurance; reduce pain; increase flexibility and gain self-confidence.
