Pennsylvania Company Enlisted to Help Keep Navy Seals Healthy

Middletown, PA-The U.S. Navy Seals, arguably the toughest and most elite fighting force in the world, have enlisted HydroWorx International of Middletown, Pa. to help keep its soldiers healthy and fit.

The Special Warfare Group Four’s human performance and rehabilitation division in Norfolk, Va. purchased two HydroWorx 500 pools, according to HydroWorx president Anson Flake. The pools will be operational in the next month.

Among the many valuable features, the HydroWorx 500 has a patented, built-in, variable speed treadmill. By adjusting the water level, the user can rehabilitate an injured leg in a weightless or semi-weightless environment.

The ability to run or walk naturally in a reduced-weight environment saves significant wear and tear on joints, and speeds recovery. That is why professional sports teams like the Indiana Pacers, San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions, to name a few, have made HydroWorx a cornerstone of their respective training facilities. Numerous colleges have purchased HydroWorx products as well.

Athletes and soldiers aren’t the only ones benefiting from the technology. Hospitals and nursing homes use the pools to help brain and spinal cord injury patients regain mobility, and to rehabilitate patients after joint replacement surgery.

The same HydroWorx 500 pool installed at the Navy Seals location is also an integral part of an experimental, high-tech training program called the Oregon Project.

That program, coached by running great Alberto Salazar, is designed to make U.S. runners competitive with the Kenyans who dominate the sport. “I feel these pools and the underwater treadmill will help revitalize long distance running in the U.S. We can increase the mileage our guys run without increasing the wear and tear on their joints,” Salazar said.

HydroWorx formed in 1995. In the last five years it grew from two to 22 employees. Sales increased at four times the pace of its best competitor, and its customer base now covers 43 states and two countries.

About HydroWorx: HydroWorx specializes in designing, manufacturing, and marketing the world’s finest water therapy and conditioning equipment for the sports, healthcare, eldercare, and fitness markets. The company leads the industry in scientific research and data supporting the therapeutic and rehabilitative properties of water therapy. HydroWorx has sold products in 50 states and nine countries. Among its extensive and elite client list are: Dr. James Andrews, renowned orthopedic surgeon; the Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints, the U.S. Navy Seals, NASA, the Kennedy Krieger Institute, Manchester United, Nike, the NHL champion Pittsburgh Penguins, the NCAA men’s basketball national champion Duke University, Notre Dame, and Appalachian State.
