Ironman Triathlon Training
Sarah Mercer specializes in long distance triathlons—half or full Ironmans. She arrived at ACCUA in Savage, MN, with compression fractures in her mid-back. She had been hit by a car 3 weeks prior to the Ironman in Hawaii and still finished the race; but she paid the price and needed unweighted therapy and conditioning. Sarah immediately loved the fact that her feet actually “hit the ground” on the HydroWorx underwater treadmill. She continues to include aquatic exercise in her training today, whether she’s banged up from endless miles on the road or not.
1500m Training
Nick Willis was diagnosed with bilateral tibial stress fractures. He turned to a fellow University of Michigan alum and sports preparation expert, Rodney Goble, to continue his intense training while injured. Nick ran in the HydroWorx pool at Goble's Michigan Rehabilitation Specialists facility in Hamburg, MI. After six months of hydrotherapy workouts, Willis raced to a lifetime best 10th place at the World Track and Field Championships in Osaka, Japan.
